I’m not really a fan of pop music, never have been, but, sometimes a pop track comes around that I just cant deny. This is one of them.

I heard this song for the first time when Dua Lipa performed it on SNL back in December 2020. I didn’t think much of it then but, after re-watching the performance, it’s one of those performances on TV that just — doesn’t translate well. Without getting into specifics I find that some bands and artists, for whatever reason, their TV performances just aren’t as good as other live renditions or the radio/streaming/mp3 version of the track. That could be chalked up to over producing the track so it sounds different than a live performance, but this is not the case with Dua Lipa. If I had to blame anything I’d say it was NBC and their shoddy broadcasting equipment or the stage at SNL. It’s an acoustics thing maybe? I’m not sure. Anyway…

Later, I think it was Summer 2021, I heard the track all over TikTok. The first line of the pre-chorus,

‘I want you, you want me baby’

was featured in lots of videos and I just had to know who and what it was.

Little Googling later, and I’m listening to Levitating on my Spotify. Instant like, instant add to Unskippable, and there it stayed.

It’s catchy as hell, the beat is addictive and it’s just a fun pop song, sung and produced well. It just touches me every time it comes on. In the car, I’ll start chair dancing and singing along. At home, well, it gets cranked and I just have fun for 3:40. It — Levitates me, as it were.

You’ve probably heard it before, but if you haven’t give it a listen. Oh! side note: I specifically chose the lyric video because of the allegations against Da Baby, the featured “rapper” on the official video, of homophobia. I’m not about that life.
